LeBiAC - Quality Initiative in Teacher Education

As part of the Teacher Training Quality Initiative, the Federal Government and the Länder support the further development of teacher training. The teaching of computer science and the teaching and research area of computer science 9 have also been active there since 1 January 2019 and 1 May 2019 as part of the RWTH project LeBiAC – Gemeinsam verschieden sein sein since 1 January 2019 and 1 May 2019 with three measures: the development and evaluation of the InfoSphere - Lehr-Lern-Labor Informatik, the development of collaborative multi-touch learning games and OER competences in teacher training.

The first mentioned measure comes from the package of measures II.2 ("Strengthening practical relevance"), the other two from the package of measures I.1 ("Teaching and learning in a digital world").

Measure I.1c - OER competences in teacher training

The subproject I.1c aims at the sensitisation and qualification for open digital learning materials and learning applications (dOER) in all subjects of teacher training at the RWTH Aachen and builds on preliminary work from the successful BMBF project MINT-L-OER-amt.

In addition to the teacher training students, the subproject also addresses all teachers of didactics and all teachers of educational sciences entrusted with teacher training who are to be qualified for the use and (further) development of dOER. By embedding suitable building blocks in curricularly anchored didactic and educational science courses, the medium-term aim is to ensure that all student teachers at RWTH are qualified for dOER. At the beginning of the project, qualification workshops will be held together with teachers and students. In the following years, the subject didactics will take over the offers in their courses under their own direction.

Measure I. 2d "Collaborative Multi-Touch Learning Games

In subproject I.2d, a didactic doctoral thesis will investigate how collaborative learning games can be implemented on various multi-touch devices in order to provide suitable individual feedback on learning processes on theoretical computer science topics. Conditions, variables and success factors for the use of learning games in computer science lessons in schools will be analyzed and feedback channels in collaborative learning games will be explored. Reusable components for the development of learning games will be designed and collaborative learning games will be integrated into computer science lessons. On the basis of the achieved project results, teacher training students are to be qualified for the use and development of collaborative learning games on the basis of this framework. The results of the research project can be transferred to collaborative learning games in other subjects. MTLG

Measure II. 2a - Teaching-Learning-Laboratory Informatics

The InfoSphere – Schülerlabor Informatik has been in existence since 2010 and has been further developed into a teaching-learning laboratory in the LeBiAC subproject II.2a. In the course of this project, pupils are given the opportunity to get to know the world of computer science on the one hand and students of the computer science teaching profession on the other hand are given a first insight into teaching practice. The teaching trials are firmly integrated into the course "Introduction to the Didactics of Computer Science (FdI 1)". In the course of the exercises, the students view already existing material, extend it with their own components and carry out the modules with groups of pupils. Afterwards the lecturers and the students reflect. The steps are taken twice, once with topics for the lower and intermediate level and once with topics for the upper level within the framework of the Schüleruni Informatik. The students particularly benefit from the fact that their first practical experiences take place in a prepared environment. The already existing materials and the possibilities of the pupil laboratory give the students the freedom to concentrate completely on the teaching situation. The competences acquired in the teaching-learning laboratory will be deepened in the further course of the didactic training in the courses "FdI 2" at a cooperation school and "FdI 3" in the practical semester.

Further details can be found in the event descriptions FdI 1 , FdI 2 and FdI 3.

The InfoSphere - Lehr-Lern-Labor Informatik also offers testing scope for students of teaching professions outside of the course: for example as a semester-accompanyingBerufsfeldpraktikum. For this framework, a training course was designed in which the trainees are prepared for their tasks. This includes an introduction to the most important (technical) didactic basics, the development of the basic concepts and guidelines of the pupils' computer science laboratory and various exercises for dealing with pupils in an extracurricular learning context. A special focus is placed on the topics of individual support and inclusion. Here you can download the Concept and the training materials ( Presentation , AB Scenaries , Handout Worksheet und Handout Dos Don'ts ).
